Happy Thanksgiving every one.

It goes without saying that this holiday brings mixed emotions to my heart. On one hand I know that it is incredibly unfair that I get to spend this day with my family and Kallan has passed.

On the other hand I know that Kallan would want me to survive and thrive—just as I would have wanted the same for him if roles were reversed.

The amount and measure of support my family and I have received in the past few months has been tremendous. Thank you all so much for all the cards, the visits, the help you’ve given my family, the love and support. We are blessed to have a veritable army of love and support behind us.

I continue to get better and stronger each day at the hospital. There is no doubt on my mind that the love and support behind me and my family is pushing that progress along.
We all have so much to be thankful for.

Kirsten

Kirsten - I wish you and your family the best this Thanksgiving. My thoughts and prayers go out to Kallan's family as well.
Stay strong - you are an inspiration to many as you continue your recovery. I think of you often, though I have not met you - only your mother.

  8. Dear Kirsten

Blessings and best wishes from New Zealand .Amongst other things we would like to thank your parents, family, and friends and of course you for sharing your journey, feelings and showing what an admirable person you are. When we first became aware of the accident and loss like many others we have included you in our prayer life and as much as possible followed your progress through the announcements on the Waikato hospital site and through them the link to your current site.
Our hearts undoubtedly like many others are leaping for joy to read of your improvement and the strength that has been given to you. In no way diminishing what you are feeling over the loss of your husband,we are pleased that you have the desire of surving and thriving. That surely is a testimony of what you have and are. While I don’t wish to minimise your experience I (Robert) can certainly relate to those comments having gone through a loss “in and another life”. While leaps and bounds have been made made and effectively done what you have said in that observation itis a timely reminder for the waxing and waning that occur at times .In a way it reminds of what Christian counsellor told me a few years ago , when we look for God himself in certain situations we lose sight of the fact that He comes to us through wounded healers with skin on.

Kirsten we probably won’t meet in this lifetime but let me just add that from what I/we have read and heard of you , you are a beautiful person in so many ways. We would be proud to have you as a family member , a sister and to be honest “jealous”- but nonetheless pleased for- of your friends in that they have a friend in you.

All our prays , best wishes for you, Parents, family and of course the family of Kallanin their loss.
    Love and all the best

    Robert,Cheryl and Hannah

  13. Kirsten you are simply phenomenal. I can't believe the progress you've made, and your positive spirit continues to inspire me. My friend Brenda recently told me that you had suggested starting a "state-sponsored friendship" with her at my behest, and I knew instantly that this had to be your quick-witted joke. I hop this holiday wasn't too hard. I know a lot of people were thankful for you this year :). Love,

    Rachel

  15. Hi Kirsten:

Hope this past Thanksgiving weekend was a wonderful one back here in the U.S. with your family. I am sure that some of your moments were tough and tearful as you remember your husband, but as you carry him in your heart, rest assured that he is with you every moment that you need him. You are so right: he would want you to be brave. The courage you have shown in your recovery is amazing... your family and friends must be incredibly proud. You are a true Smith woman to the core, and I am honored to share that small common bond with you.

Take care and hope to meet you someday! Much <3 and many hugs XO
